Where can you save?

The calculator above works forwards from your salary. This works backwards from your life: put in what you actually spend each month, and we compare every category to a typical Dubai budget, then rank exactly where the savings are, biggest first, with what to do about each.

What you actually spend each month

Benchmarks are a typical single-person Dubai budget per category (best-estimate, 2026). Couples and families naturally run higher on food, utilities and eating out, so treat those bands as a floor. Amounts are in AED. Educational only, not financial advice.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure is a range built from listed market prices for Dubai as of 2026: rent by housing type and area tier, DEWA and internet, transport, groceries, phone plans and school fees. We show the range next to each line so you can judge the estimate, not just trust it.

One honest caveat: public listings skew toward the formal end of the market. Long-time residents pay less through informal options, older buildings and local shops. That is exactly what the "How you spend" setting is for: Savvy prices every line at the low end of its real range, Comfort at the high end.

The same calculation engine powers this calculator and every salary page on the site, so the numbers never disagree with each other. No tracking, no signup, nothing stored.

School & university fees

Education is the biggest variable in a Dubai family budget, and the one people most underestimate. Annual figures per student, as of 2026. School fees also feed the calculator above, as a monthly per-child line when you choose "family with kids".

What to do with the money you save

Saving is only half the job, idle cash quietly loses value to inflation. Here is where Dubai residents typically put spare money, roughly lowest to highest risk, and what steady investing could grow into over time.

Common questions

What salary do you need to live comfortably in Dubai?

It depends on housing. A single person sharing accommodation can live on 6,000 to 8,000 AED a month. For your own studio plus some savings, roughly 12,000 to 15,000 AED is a common comfort point. Couples and families need substantially more, mainly for rent and school fees.

Is 10,000 AED a good salary in Dubai?

For a single person it is workable: sharing accommodation leaves meaningful savings, while a private studio in a mid-tier area makes the month tight. It is not comfortable for a family paying its own rent and school fees. See the full 10,000 AED breakdown.

How much does rent cost in Dubai?

As of mid-2026 estimates: a bed space runs a few hundred dirhams a month, shared rooms roughly 800 to 3,000 AED, studios roughly 2,400 to 8,500 AED and 1-bedroom apartments roughly 3,200 to 12,000 AED a month depending on the area tier.

How much money can you save in Dubai?

Savings depend on the rent-to-salary ratio more than on the salary itself. Keeping rent under about 30 percent of income typically allows saving 15 to 30 percent of salary. Rent above 40 percent of income usually leaves little to save at any level.

Is salary in Dubai tax-free?

Yes, there is no personal income tax on salaries in the UAE. Your gross salary is what lands in your account, which is why savings potential in Dubai can beat higher gross salaries elsewhere, provided rent is kept in check.
